Reactor Design Analysis Lab

Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department, Emirate Nuclear Technology Center

Principal advisor: Dr. Saeed Al Ameri (saeed.alameri@ku.ac.ae)Ìý

The Reactor Desing and Analysis (RDA) laboratory focuses on advanced numerical simulations in nuclear reactor physics and thermal-hydraulics, using state-of-the-art computational tools. In reactor physics, the team addresses challenges in core neutronics and fuel management, developing models that enhance our understanding of reactor behavior. In thermal-hydraulics, the lab focuses on two-phase flow phenomena, such as boiling and condensation, to improve predictions of heat transfer dynamics. These simulations play a crucial role in supporting the development of safety strategies and emergency procedures. With its integration of advanced reactor physics and CFD tools, the lab contributes to next-generation reactor technologies while also playing a pivotal role in the training and development of Khalifa University students. The lab equips them with hands-on experience using cutting-edge computational tools, which are integrated into the curriculum of various nuclear engineering courses at the university. This allows students to actively contribute to key areas such as core neutronics, thermal-hydraulic simulations, and safety analyses. Through direct involvement in high-level simulations and analysis, students gain invaluable expertise that prepares them for careers in academia, industry, or regulatory bodies.
